How To Select A Best Reverse Osmosis System?

The functionality of all the reverse osmosis system is just the same. What they differ in are the kind of materials used and the extent to which a particular reverse osmosis system can filter the water contaminants. The different features, ease of operating and the time taken to purify the water could be some basic criteria to be looked upon while selecting your best reverse osmosis filtration system.

Factors to be considered while choosing a right system for you

  • Membrane

The main membrane of the RO system is of two types, the CTA (cellulose triacetate) and the TFM/TFC (thin film material or thin film composite) out of which CTA is chlorine tolerant. Now if the water that you are about to filter is without chlorine, then you can select the model with TFM as these membrane though are not chlorine tolerant but they are capable of blocking all sorts of bacteria which are prominent in all sorts of water and extremely harmful for people drinking it.

  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)

Every RO system mentions the remaining amount of TDS in the water that they are filtering. The maximum allowable limit of TDS for a healthy drinking water is only 500. If the RO system is capable of cleaning water leaving only 500 or lesser TDS then it can be purchased without any worries and risk.

  • Booster pumps

Right amount of water pressure entering the RO systems is very crucial as to filter the water the pressure should be at least 50 PSI. If not you will need an external booster pump to increase the water pressure and then flow it inside the RO system.

  • Number of pre filtering stages

Every time the water is filtered through an RO system; it needs to ne pre-treated before actually entering the final or main membrane of the system. More is the number of pre filtering stage, better would be the quality of final drinking water. Ideal number is a minimum of 4-5 stages of pre filtering of the water.

  • Automatic shutoff switch or valve

Presence of this valve is very crucial in saving water. If there is an automatic switch then, you will not have to keep an eye on when the storage tank of the RO system is getting full. These automatic switches detect by themselves the level of the storage tank and switches off the system by itself.

  • Noise free

Water filtration through an RO system can be carried at any point of time in a day. So if it is noise free, it is preferable by users.

  • Storage tank

The capacity of the tank could be selected based on the daily requirement of the water as models of RO systems are available with different storage capacities for users to have options.

  • Presence of neutralizer

If an RO system has a neutralizer then it helps to keep the alkalinity of the water to bare minimum reducing the acidity of the water which is necessary for a healthy drinking water.

  • Life of filters

Always look into the kin d of filters used in the RO system. These filters should be long lasting and when they get damaged, they should also be easy to replace.

Conclusion

While selecting the reverse osmosis system its features and strengths like durability, quality of products, extent of water purification capability etc., should be checked as once you purchase an RO system, you will use it for a very long time.
